One January morning we looked around our $1500/month corporate office and wondered “what is wrong with this picture?” Why do we drive here everyday? Our consultants were at client sites, not needing an office. The office staff had all embraced the concept of telecommuting – working from home!
The year was 1996.
Our work consisted entirely of phones and computers. We knew it could all be done from home. The next question: should our home continue to be in Winnipeg? We were renting a house. So, we wondered: why not pursue our dream of returning to our rural roots?
One nice day in February we pulled out a map and located a couple of our favourite getaways: Nopoming Park and Elk Island. With Winnipeg as the apex we put our finger in the centre of the triangle and landed on the small community of Stead, Manitoba. Off to Stead looking for real estate signs. We spotted a sign indicating Hobby Farm for sale, with modern house. We called a realtor and learned that the price and taxes were about 2/3 of what we would pay in the city.
Thus, begins the saga of Boyle Park …
