A Week in Lorraine’s Diary
15 Sun. I slept off & on until 12.20 when Keith & Is. came, the latter having been to Church in the Choir. Got the work done. After due consideration, decided to lie down this aft & visit tonight. Didn’t sleep, but rested. I got lunch at 5.30. We went to Church then took Woodworks home & stayed there until 10.30. Had a real nice visit, & lunch. Keith stayed here until nearly 2. We talked quite a bit. He’s a darling.
16 Mon. I felt pretty good today. Keith was up to the Office 2 or 3 times this morn. He kissed me then went to Marg’s for dinner & I saw Gordon taking him to the train before one. Felt kind of lonesome today noon. Did some work at the room. Set my hair tonight. Was in bed at 9.30. Isabelle followed shortly after.
17 Tues. Punk business again. Mr. Girardin, Sorrell, Lloyd & Joe all in Regina to Manager’s Convention. Is. & I went over to see Doris & Alice tonight, as Steve Ferrell died last night. Did some embroidery. Home at 10.30.
18 Wed. Miserable morn, calmed down this aft, but tonight it is terrible. 40 mile per hour wind. Our room is drafty as heck. Eriel was to come for supper but couldn’t on account of weather. We both stayed home. Terribly cold in here for awhile, but warmed up. I actually embroidered for a whole hour.
19 Thurs. Calm day at work. No business. I went to Williamson’s & washed my hair. Came back here & set it, bathed, washed stocking, etc. Isabelle was a Choir Practice.
20 Fri. Dad came to town in sleight this morn with Ed K. Took 3 hours, Dad & I had dinner in Comm. Champion Curlers returned so kids all met them at the train. (Isabelle too.) She went to the Celebration in the Legion tonight too, so I ironed & scrubbed & waxed this floor. It was so filthy I couldn’t stand it any longer.
21 Sat. Good day a work. It didn’t drag as Saturday usually does. Couldn’t got to see Sadie as she is busy tonight & no one would go skating with me, so I went alone at 8. Really enjoyed it. Skated for an hour almost steady. Bed at 10.10.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
