Communication in any relationship involves both speaking and listening. I speak to God through prayer, and I listen to God by continually reading His Word, The Bible.

I have a relationship with God, not for what I can get from Him, but for His forgiveness of my sin. It was recently pointed out that my sin performance is much closer to the standard set by Hitler than it is to the standard set by God.

God’s standard is impossible for any human to achieve. I am totally reliant on his forgiveness and his amazing ability to forget. This has become my ultimate relationship of Love where I more and more strongly desire to follow and obey Him.

I believe the Bible is the only reliable source of knowledge of my Christian Faith. Yes, I have felt God’s presence and have sensed Him speaking to me directly. Yes, I have read and heard many others and have been instructed by them. However, I believe if my personal  feelings (or the teachings of others) contradict the Bible, then The Bible is the sole source of the Truth.

I know of no other way to spot these contradictions than thorough, personal experience with the Word of God. I believe that regular reading of the complete Bible is the reliable way to spot and dismiss these contradictions.

Some Bible References (for context, copy the quote and paste to your search engine):

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

“Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”

“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”

I began my first “Read Through The Bible” around the time that I was baptized in 1993. All I knew was that the entire Bible is important and that reading through is a good idea. I opened my big NIV Translation, turned right to the end, and determined how many pages it contained. Then a simple division by 365 indicated my daily goal of 4-6 pages to be done in a year.

I had heard that as a beginner I could get bogged down in the Old Testament. So I began reading at the beginning of the New Testament. After ending at Revelation, I then started the Old Testament and kept on going through Malachi. By now I had developed a routine and momentum, so I kept on going through the New Testament again! I have lost track how many times (and different ways) that I have read through the Bible since then.

Tips on using the Audio links from Main Point Ministries.

Our daily readings now contain links to the appropriate audio selection from the New King James Version (NKJV) provided by Main Point Ministries. Use of these links is entirely optional. You can still do your daily reading using any text Bible, hardcopy or online, of your choice.

Tips on using the links:

  • When the reading of one chapter is spread over more than one day (ie. Luke 6 is split between January 2&3) then the link triggers the entire chapter on the first day of the multiple days.
