TODAY in “Read Through The Bible”
As we approach the dawn of 2022 we continue to expand the content of this blog. Mom’s Diary will continue to be posted, one week at a time, until the last 65 weeks are complete.
Today is the first issue of our Faith Page:
December 26, 2021 — Comment from Chris:
I began my first “Read Through The Bible” around the time that I was baptized in 1993. All I knew was that the entire Bible is important and that reading through is a good idea. I opened my big NIV Translation, turned right to the end, and determined how many pages it contained. Then a simple division by 365 indicated my daily goal of 4-6 pages to be done in a year.
I had heard that as a beginner I could get bogged down in the Old Testament. So I began reading at the beginning of the New Testament. After ending at Revelation I then started at the Old Testament and kept on going through Malachi. By now I had developed routine and momentum, so I kept on going though the New Testament again! I have lost track how many times (and different ways) that I have read through the Bible since then.
This year on Christmas Day, a good friend, Tim Nielsen posted the following (reposted here with permission):
“In the mid to late 1970s, I took the photo below of my Dad’s hands in prayer over his Bible. Dad also loved oil lamps and had collected dozens of different kinds, several of which we have in our house. Dad read the Bible every day and modelled it for us children.
“Today, Christmas morning, I just finished reading through the Bible again. I have lost track of how many times I have read through the Scriptures. It seems that each day I am struck with something that I had never seen before or thought of before. Because the Scriptures are God-breathed, you cannot “plumb the depths,” but instead, you can daily uncover hidden treasures.
“What is your Bible study plan for 2022? I am thinking of doing a more personal inductive Bible study next year, so I will cover less ground but I hope to go deeper with each passage.” (Tim Nielsen)

A Week in Lorraine’s Diary
7 Sun. Slept until 11.40. Got up with a headache but it wore off. Had Chicken dinner at 1, then (Jan & I) to an Executive Meeting at Mitchells. Had a wonderful lunch at four. Wilma came & took us to Albert Lawrences for supper. The kids are all cute, especially Teddy, my dream man.
8 Mon. Harry B. brought us all to town. Isabelle came to work this aft with me. Mr. Gerardin came for good this aft. He seems real nice. Isabelle & I went back to work for an hour. Accomplished a good deal.
9 Tues. Mr. Stewart & Eleanor Bouché from the Audit Department came down this aft. She is going to stay until a new Secretary comes, & close off for the Month End. We all worked tonight & Kids are taking stock. Wilf came up & helped me shake out the Gas Tax Report.
10 Wed. Store closed & everybody working. I stayed in the Office all day, so it wasn’t so bad. Isabelle was there all afternoon. She went back tonight, but I stayed home as the Auditors are using my books anyway. Went to bed early.
11 Thurs. Had a real busy day. Eleanor Bouché is staying until the new Secretary Charlie Norman comes. It is rather difficult as we are departmentalizing. Isabelle came over tonight, & we walked downtown for a soda. Lovely evening.
12 Fri. Real warm afternoon. Mom made a rush trip to town this morn. I walked downtown with Doris & Is. After supper, brought home some bread & cones for Arline & Kids. Set my hair & talked to Arline awhile. We were looking a Wedding Gowns
13 Sat. Rained like everything. We were terribly busy all day. Mom brought girls in & went home. Keith & Wilma went to show, then Wilma & I met them shortly after nine. We closed early, as there was no business. We had ice cream sodas in the Commercial. The kids were all in a crazy mood. We had fund. It rained like everything. Keith stayed all night.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
For more information on BCATP see a blog site dedicated to “Paying homage to those who stayed behind to train those who fought overseas.
