26 Sat. Gave Leila a lesson this afternoon. She went to town with all the rest. I stayed here alone. Charlie Candy’s came in to hire me to play at Halbrite next Fri. I gave Wilma & Shirley each a lesson tonight. Washed & set Wilma’s hair. Isabelle & I danced a bit.
27 Sun. Did a bit of homework. Wrote to Bert. Had lunch then we all went down to Bowditches. Had a nice afternoon & supper. Came home, packed suitcase and wrote to Gordon. Bed after ten.
28 Mon. Doris brought Mr S. & I to town. We were both inoculated after four. Also did shopping & put in time. Tonight, did as little homework as possible, then took pictures for a half hour. Doris went in & got one of Herald & Delia in bed. We then had a ___ ice-cream, maple walnut sundae. Went and looked in the rink & then home.
29 Tues. I felt dopey today. Had practice a four. I went over to Coulters to see about Fri. nite, then came home and got supper. Doris was down town. We were over to Mrs. Henries tonite to keep Donna. Played the piano. I came home early & went to bed. Had a headache.
Mar 1 Wed. Mom & Dad came up shortly after we got home at noon. I stayed after four to check over Ag.Ec. Exam. Doris scrubbed & waxed the floor. Did homework, then went down town & had a milk shake. Doris Treated me.
2 Thurs. I sent down town after school. Got rid of plenty of money. Doris & I went to Sorrells to night. I came home early, bathed, did hair, etc. etc. Bed about 11.15.
3 Fri. I didn’t have an exam today. Both went down town after school. Doris stayed in tonight to go to Ross’s party. I stayed & went to Halbrite to play with Charlie, Bob & Peltier. Went in Burt Trudgeon’s car. Six of us. (Ollie Brown with us). Good dance. I like men in the ___. Came home with Charlie. 3.15.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. She had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grade 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for CATP (Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
