Feb 19 Sat. Mom cleaned the house yesterday. I gave Wilma a lesson, washed hair. Mom washed bedclothes, etc. I did homework. Mrs. Freeman stayed here tonight while Elton went to town. He came out about 10. Had lunch. Bed about one.
20 Sun. More homework, etc. Isabelle made ice-cream. McGugans came down this afternoon. Mrs McGugans birthday. Had ice-cream for supper. Old folks & I got into an argument about politics, farming, education. Etc, Isabelle brought a cone up to bed to me. Bed after ten.
21 Mon. Dad brought us to town. We were downtown after four. Had a good talk with Mr. Lutz. I also chatted with Mae. Room was cold. We sat in Delia’s room for awhile. Doris was sick tonight. I had a bath.
22 Tues. Doris, sick to the stomach stayed home all day. Room is still cold. I stayed for singing after four. We did home-work tonight. Bed at ten.
23 Wed. Betty Frymire gave a speech in the aud. We saw a film on the Mosquito, In Biology. Doris & I went to the first show tonight. It was Naughty Marietta with (redacted). A grand show. Did homework after.
24 Thurs. Another usual day. Doris went down after school. I did potatoes, we read some of the Newspapers. Went to Sorrells tonight. Studied Ag. Ec. Didn’t get home until late again. Bed about 11:30
25 Fri. Wrote Ag.Ec. I expect I made a low mark. Dad came in for us. He & Mom went to Freemans tonight. Miss Farrell came over here, & we sort of planned a program for the school. Had lunch. I bathed. Bed at 12.30

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. She had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grade 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for CATP (Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
