Riverview won ball cup for 4th year in succession. Friday, May 23, 1947

18           Sun. I didn’t get up until 11.30. Didn’t do an awful lot this aft. Isabelle went fishing with Mr. Stutt this morn. Dad stayed in all day. Wilma and I talked this evening, then all went to bed about 10.

19           Mon. Isabelle stayed out home to burn today, & Doris & I came in with the Sterling Girls. We were babysitter tonight. Kept both the kids while the rest went out. Ross came home today for a few days. I finished my glove.

20           Tues. Mom, Mrs. Stutt & Wilma were in for Mr. Kurtz Funeral. Wilf was away most of the day. Grace was at work this aft, but Isabelle is still out home. Doris was out this evening. C.G.I.T. were here. I went to bed early as I felt a cold coming on.

21           Wed. Kurtzes said they would call me at the house this aft, so I could go out home with them, but I waited all afternoon & they never phoned. Changed my lessons to Thursday night. Caught a chill & felt miserable this aft, so lay around. Practiced. Bed early again tonight. Took lemon.

22           Thurs. Wilf away again nearly all day. I bought Mom’s Birthday present at noon. Took my lesson after supper & set my hair. Doris really cleaned house in our room. My cold sure doesn’t feel very good.

23           Fri. Just Grace & I in the Office this aft. I went out home with Marjorie & Allen about 7 o’clock as holiday tomorrow. Mom came in with Stutts tonight to an Orchestra Concert in the Legion. Field meet at Goodwater this aft. Riverview won ball cup for 4th year in succession. Took a bath this evening, & we kids talked.

24           Sat. I made a cake this morn & we kids had a lot of fun making lunch. Beautiful out at noon. Girls all went to town to the Sports. Keith & Marg called for me about 2 and we met the kids in town. Drove around the grounds all afternoon. It rained now & again. Went to the 9 o’clock show “No Leave, No Love”. Van Johnson. Very good. Had fireworks when we got home. Keith & Margaret stayed at our place overnight

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …

For more information on BCATP see a blog site dedicated to “Paying homage to those who stayed behind to train those who fought overseas.
