
Apr 1 Sat. Dad & Mr. S. worked at Willis all day. We cleaned. I gave Leila a lesson, washed my head, bathed, did a little studying. Went to bed at a reasonable hour. Winnifred couldn’t come out today.
2 Sun. Up late. I studied. Girls skated on the pool west of the house. We all went to Freemans for dinner. I drove the car. Gee! What fun! Elsie, Celeste & family were there late in the afternoon & stayed for supper. Came home & read, then studied. Couldn’t go to sleep.
3 Mon. Elton brought Myrna over, then Dean brought us all to town. We got to school about 2 min. to nine. Went down town after four. I was sleepy tonight but had to study Literature. Delia called in & talked on her way home.
4 Tues. An hour Lit. My head was sort of achy all day. Just sleepy! We stayed for singing after four. I went downtown & Doris got supper. Thru in good time. Doris went downtown to the show with Jean. I went to bed early.
5 Wed. Grand day. I washed most of the woodwork in the sun porch by myself. Doris did a little then got supper & did dishes. We went for a short walk. Went to Sorrells. Home at 12.30. Freemans, Mom & Dad were in town tonight to a C.C.F meeting.
6 Thurs. Just about dead today! Grade twelves put on the Lit at 3. I played a medley of war songs & it went over swell was unchored (sic) but didn’t have time to play again we came home with McGugans. Dad came up & got us. I had a bike ride tonight.
7 Good Fri. I washed & waxed living room floor. Used the rest of the day to clean out drawers, closets, etc. Curled my hair tonight. Isabelle & Wilma helped the men put off hay.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
