Sat. Mr Levans & Merl were here this morn. Merl sure is cute. Did a bit of homework this morn. Talked as usual. Three us went to town this afternoon. Mae & I saw the show, “Sahara” with Humphrey Bogart. Was grand. All on the desert. Not a woman in it. Came home around six. Mae washed & set my hair. Sure feels good. Monty fixed harness tonight. We talked till ten, then Mae & I went to bed.
Sun. Snowed!!! Mae called me for breakfast, as there were pancakes. Good! We sat around this morning. All went home for dinner. When we got there, found out Anna, Worthy & Gale were there we kids sang dozens of songs, Monty joined in too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I still think he is a darned swell guy. Guess I won’t ever outgrow it. Too bad for me. ___ bought a freezer of ice-cream which we had for supper & everyone left early.
Mon. Mr Stutt brought Dad and us kids to town. Went down after school. Did a little more than an hour’s homework tonight. Went to the show “Old Acquaintance” Bette Davis. It didn’t end right. I tried to get shoes after school, but no success. All too homely.
Tues. Weather is snappy, though not too bad yet. Doris got supper, I went downtown. Mrs. S & Patsy were in for a minute at supper time. We went over there & kept Patsy while they went to the show. Bed about 11.45.
Wed. So sleepy! Madam Clark told me I didn’t know my Lit. We practised singing in the last period. I peeled potatoes. Doris went downtown. She and Marg Douglas went to collegiate basketball game tonight. Airport won. Dean came over for my French Book. Stayed & talked for about half an hour.
Thurs. Don Alexander, wife & baby were up to see Delia. They came in here at noon as her room was cold. Choral practice after four. I went downtown for a few minutes. We had steak for supper. Mrs Sorrell baked our potatoes for us at noon. We kept Patsy tonight. Studied French till 11.
Fri. Wrote our French. Fitz, Ruth, Dot & Jane went to Estevan for the Oratory Contest. We had to write a History test, No one knew it. Dad came in for Doris & I . Had to wait until we packed. Stayed home tonight. First Friday since Christmas.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. She had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grade 11. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for CATP (Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
