TODAY in “Read Through The Bible”

19 Sun. We all bathed and Mother & I dressed up really spiffy. We finished decorating the tree. I did some reading. We all listened to the radio tonight. The play “Alice in Wonderland” was on. It blows and snows most every day.
20 Mon. We did the washing today. I slept again this aft. “Miracle on 34th St.” was on Lux. Very good. We all sat in front room and listened. I knit on my other sock. Coming along well.
21 Tues. I did some of the ironing before dinner. Seemed to be quite busy all day. Went to the Colgate Concert tonight. It was very good. Cold night but Keith has sleigh all covered in, so comfortable.
22 Wed. Mother made angel cake, shortbread, plum pudding & waxed dining room floor. We finished ironing washed bedroom curtains & I washed & set my hair.
23 Thurs. Mother & I finished up all the odds and ends. Have the house all spic & span. Margaret phoned from Weyburn. She & Dad come out with Wrays & Keith met them in Colgate. Dad looks pretty well, we put some more parcels under the tree. Had rather nice evening.
24 Fri. Keith, Marg & I took the team to Colgate then went up home in car for dinner. Really swell. First time in three weeks. Went to Weyburn. Home at 7. Opened our parcels tonight. Keith gave me an atomizer. Received many lovely gifts. Didn’t get to bed til midnight.
25 Sat. Mr. Clare & Elmers came for dinner. Latter left for home at 5.30. Fairly nice time. Marg & I had Keith in a real good mood. Stacks of fun. He took Mr. Clare back & we didn’t get to bed til 1 a.m. We talked like we haven’t talked for ages, & I had such a good time. very happy.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
