A Week in Lorraine’s Diary
7 Sun. Rev. Moore from St. Andrews College spoke twice today. Very good. It was terribly cold all day. Our room was cold, so we went to bed for awhile to get warmed up. I came right home after Church. Is. Stayed for Choir Practice & to the Manse after. I wrote Keith this aft.
8 Mon. Still cold. Day went O.K. I stayed home tonight. Isabelle went to the Hockey Match. I embroidered. Am getting places now. It’s about time, I guess. Started those pillow slips in December.
9 Tues. Dave Stewart arrived at the Office this aft to audit the books. The carpenter also moved in to build a private Office for Mr. Girardin. I am moved down to the South end now. Went to C.C.Y.M. Just six girls there. Is & I went to Bennings to see Sadie at 10 o’clock. Had a nice visit with her. Home at almost midnight.
10 Wed. Came home & cleaned the room at noon then went & curled on Duffy’s rink at 2. We beat Mary then curled Alf (Isabelle’s rink) & beat them. Had a lot of fun but I was pretty cold. Went to Young Peoples tonight. Mr. Lennox spoke on the Financial side of marriage. We planned a variety program to take to the Mental on the 19th.
11 Thurs. A beautiful day. Keith came to town. It was swell seeing him after almost a month. The two of us had lunch up here at the room. His suit is here and is lovely. He also paid for the kitchen suite. Is. went & washed her hair, then to Choir Practice. I washed dishes, did my nails. Went to bed in pretty good time.
12 Fri. Isabelle went to the show “Gone With The Wind” with Doris. I bathed, set my hair & got some things ready to go home. Had a fair day at Office. Carpenter & Auditor are still there.
13 Sat. Auditor finished & left after dinner. Isabelle & I moved junk out of the Office half the morn. We had dinner with Keith & Mr. Boyle. It was a most beautiful day & we kids walked around. Keith tried to talk me into taking off more time. Charlie went to the Country this aft. Keith took the folks & his Dad home, then came back to our place. Isabelle took our car & we went out home. Had some music & talked politics. Keith loved me very much. I am so happy as we set the date tonight. June 9/48.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
