“we went up to the suite. Marge & Gord didn’t get home until 11, & right to bed.“ Sunday, March 2, 1947

2 Sun. Mac Kitson phoned me about 10 o’clock & gave me the most thrilling news, that Keith was on his way in, with Kitsons. He arrived up here about 3. Gee, it was swell to see him. We talked until suppertime, then Is. He & I went to the Comm. Is went to Church, & we went up to the suite. Marge & Gord didn’t get home until 11, & right to bed. I love Keith so much, that I just hate to have him leave. We were closer tonight than ever, & he told me things about the two other girls he had gone with. Mr. Stewart is sick in bed.
3 Mon. Got along fine this morn. Called up at the suite on my way home at noon. Gord gave us a ride up here. Keith had to leave right away. Got awfully cold in the store this aft. & I caught cold in my back, & was quite miserable on one side. Doris & Isabelle were both feeling punk too. I washed my hair, & then went right to bed at 9.25. Had a good sleep.
4 Tues. None of us kids felt like going to the C.C.Y.M. Skating Party but all went & enjoyed ourselves immensely. After Skating Duffy helped Isabelle & I & we threw a few curling rocks. It is a lot of fun. The gang all went to Don & Ellie Goransons for lunch. Hamburger & buns, & pickles. Played “twenty questions,” & had a real good time. Gracie Walters gave us a ride home.
5 Wed. Quite cold out. Bathed & did a washing after taking my lesson. Couldn’t sleep this aft. Set my hair. We bowled at 9.15 & got 4 points from Weyburn Hardware, which helps a lot, as it put us up nearer the top. My scores were 155, 175, 95.
6 Thurs. Finally got some of the unpleasant work done today. Mrs. Stewart & Isabelle both had colds tonight, so I was the only on who went to Choir Practice. My back is better. It has been bothering me for two or three days now.
7 Fri. Stutts came to town today, so Doris had dinner with them. The Ice Carnival was tonight but there was no fancy skating, so we kids stayed home. Doris & I knit & gossiped for about an hour and 1/2.
8 Sat. Dad came to town again today, & we enjoyed our dinner with him & work is going a little better now. Bathed, did some washing tonight, then Isabelle read to me while I knit on my glove. Got the ribbing finished.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
