“Keith Margaret & I went to Sunday School. “ Sunday, October 6, 1946
6 Sun. Arose about 8.45. Roads were terrible but Keith, Margaret & I went to Sunday School. Mrs. Goodwin took the lesson which was very good. Had dinner shortly after coming home. Talked this aft. Keith & I lay on the Chesterfield & read the Home Economics Book. I put my name in his Birthday Book. We all went to Church which was communion service. Very nice, & only 1 hour. Keith brought me right up home after. Folks were up & we had lunch, then they went to bed. Keith & I laughed & talked about when a Farmer could get married.
7 Mon. Mr. Stutt brought us to town. We bowled at 7.15. got three points. I was awfully tired. It was nearly eleven when we kids got to bed. Snowed today. Grim & miserable.
8 Tues. Still isn’t clearing up. Snow & rains every now and then. Went to C.C.Y.M. tonight. Had a very good meeting. Mr. Rempel from the Collegiate spoke to us on “What the Dept of Education is doing in Saskatchewan.” Our committee had cinnamon rolls & chocolate cake for lunch.
9 Wed. I went to Oil Department right after banking & worked til 12. They close for dinner, so I got off & came home. Mom & David came to the house about two, then we picked up Dot & Edith & went to Joyce Metherals tea at her home. Very nice. It rained most of the afternoon though. We went out home at 4.10 & Mom started a new dress for me, also sewed a lot of odds & ends. Wilma made supper. We read and listened to radio this evening. Was in bed by 9.30. All in all I enjoyed it very much.
10 Thurs. Went to Oil Dept again this morn at 10.30 after coffee. Ross & I cleaned out & straightened all the Patronage Files. I came home at 12, bought a coat at Mosals at noon hour. Went back to Ross’s after dinner & by six had everything finished. Mrs. Stewart took Doris & I to the hospital to see Ruth Lawrence who has a baby girl. We came back & read papers tonight & got ready for bed.
11 Fri. Fairly nice day today. I took a bath in the tub this evening & cleaned up, as I thought Keith might be in. No luck though. I did some cross stitch. Looked after Stuart while Mrs. S. went out. I patted him for twenty-five minutes. Isabelle finally got him to sleep. Set my hair.
12 Sat. Snowed nearly all day. Cold and miserable. Roads are bad, so mom & we girls didn’t get home til 7 o’clock. I thought Keith might be up again tonight, but he didn’t come. Gee I miss him. Listened to the radio & did cross stitch.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
