“He told me about Stuarts wedding“ Monday, August 19, 1946
18 Sun. Isabelle, Wilma & I took Mom to town to go to Fort San with Dot Harper. We then went to hear Rev. Watts in the United Church. His Sermon was very good. Preached on “Belief.” Came home & cleaned house etc. Lay down for awhile, but didn’t sleep much. Did my nails, & cooked supper (all of us kids.) Didn’t do much of anything this evening. Curled part of my hair before going to bed.
19 Mon. Up at 6.45. Isabelle brought Doris & I to town. I went & got my glasses fixed at noon. Clarice is working afternoons this week, so she & I went out to the Dickson for coffee. I was going to go to the circus with Doris, Roy & girls, but Keith phoned, so I went with him. Enjoyed the Circus. Roy gave me the chocolate bar I won in our bet. We went to the house. Stayed in the car & talked. He told me about Stuarts wedding, then asked me to go to the Oddfellows Memorial Service on Sunday.
20 Tues. Windy today. I actually got my work caught up this afternoon, & didn’t have anything to do so practiced typing for about 1/2 hour. Met the bus with Uncle Allan & Isabelle, who came to the house for me & Mom came home. They brought me back up to the house. I practiced my singing, but just couldn’t sing. Bathed & went to bed at ten.
21 Wed. Got everything done this morn. Went home & had dinner, & went to have a lesson but Mrs. Findlay wasn’t home. Isabelle & Uncle Allan & Shirley came to town for me. Got out home at 3. I played ball with Robert & David. Had chicken & ice-cream for supper. Played music awhile tonight. Mom & Uncle Allan went for Dad at Bowditches. Didn’t get back til quite late. Had some more singing & ice-cream. We three girls slept in one bed, or tried.
22 Thurs. Doris didn’t get home until 7.30, as she was getting her hair done. I made supper, so we were still eating at 8 o’clock. I scrubbed the kitchen & bathroom floors, after, & practiced my singing a bit, but time went so fast that we still didn’t get to bed so early. Uncle Allan, Roy & Robert left on bus.
23 Fri. Audrey Ireland came to the Office at noon to see if I’d go to the show with her tonight. Was late getting home for supper, so didn’t help with the dishes. We went to the show shortly after seven. It was “Boys Ranch” with Butch Jenkins. Very Good. He was sure cute. I am changing my opinion of Audrey. Think she is a very nice kid. Erick & Joyce Bundle were up at the front. I met Joyce. We walked Eriel home.
24 Sat. Mom & girls (Wilma & Shirley) & David, who is still staying at our place, came to town this afternoon. I stayed in town this evening. Took a bath, set all my hair & did my nails before going to bed. Doris has gone home, so I had to sleep alone.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
