The winter of 2020/21 highlighted aging related challenges for Bev & I relating to maintaining the basics of our cherished country lifestyle. Snow blowing, firewood hauling, testing our hydro backup system, and so on …
But we do love the lifestyle, particularly slow-carting in the spring, summer, fall.
Fast forward to August when the kids, and their kids, came for the first time in two years. Now we may have over-sold our old and decrepit physical condition, but the kids all arrived ready to face a problem. On her third night here, our youngest daughter-in-law, Jess, woke up husband James to essentially say: “eureka!”
They wanted the rural lifestyle; we wanted a long-term care plan.
James and Jess went home to Alberta, quit their jobs and put their house on the market. Jess and the kids arrived before the first day of school. James arrived last Monday (September 27). He had a job interview on Wednesday morning and starts work this coming Monday. Jess also had an interview, for a job in her field, on Wednesday morning. Now she is awaiting the movement of government gears.
As for us … we have already approved the engineers plans to add 460 square feet, which we are having a great deal of fun designing.
Now, we await permitting …

I’m so glad this happened for all of you. I’m thrilled that the grandkids really get to experience the joys and education of country life. It’s such a win win situation. Although I did tell Jess that you best be building two In-law suites 🙂
