30 Sun. I woke up at 6.00 a.m. but didn’t tell anyone. Boyles have a lovely home & are swell people. We three kids & Mr Boyle went to Sunday School in Colgate. Mrs. Perc Underwood taught the lesson. Very good. Mrs Boyle and we kids went to Kitson’s this aft. Fooled around. Took a couple of pictures. Had supper there. We all went to Colgate tonight to Church. Communion Service. I played the piano when we got back home.
July 1 Mon. Marg & I picked flowers this morn & played catch. After dinner Mr. B & we kids came to town. Called in the yard at home & Is gave a some clothes. I worked from 2.30 till 4.30 then came up to the house. After Keith picked me up & we went to the Fair. We all had supper with the folks, they went through the exhibition hall. Saw the Grandstand which was fair & rode on the ferris wheel, rollo plane & octopus. Came home about 11.00
2 Tues. Keith was in town today so brought me home at noon. Asked me if I had to work, but I didn’t know. He came up around seven. We took Marg & Duan to Fair Ground then went to the show “Sailor Takes a Wife.” Kind of cute. Parked outside the fair Ground & watched from 10.15 til 10.45. Met Marg at 11.00 & came home. Keith & I talked seriously for an hour in the driveway. Had an understanding & I feel swell about the whole thing. He asked me for a kiss, but I told him some other time.
3 Wed. Worked like the dickens this morn. Closed at 12 today noon. I came home & slept, then washed my hair, set it & bathed. Went to work about 7.15. The whole staff was back fixing the east half for opening tomorrow. It really looked grand. Had cookies & ginger ale when I came home. Doris & I talked until midnight after we got in bed. Went to sleep soon.
4 Thurs. The other half of the store opened today. Furniture, dry lines etc. It was a terrific day both in the office & downstairs. Over $3000.00 in business. Everyone is pleased with the way the store looks. Doris went out this evening. I talked to her til about 9.30, then went to bed shortly after she left, as I was just about dead.
5 Fri. Another busy day. Just about caught up on my work by six. Four tils to check out. I got things lined up for my trip. Stayed in and read for quite awhile. Bed in good time. Slept well.
6 Sat. Wilma suggested that she stay in with me tonight so I heartily agreed. Mom, girls & Dad were all up to talk to me this aft. Wilma went home for supper with me. Parade tonight, so everyone was in the store after 8.30. We walked around awhile then went home & went to bed. It was late & then we talked for a long time.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
