“went out to Boyles, I stayed out there“ Saturday, June 29, 1946
23 Sun. Doris & I stayed in last night. Didn’t go to Church cause it was Communion. Mom, Wilma & Mrs. Stutt were in so we went home. I went & stayed at Stutts. Doris & I were alone most of the weekend (I mean today.) Slept awhile. I wrote Isabelle a letter tonight.
24 Mom. Mr. Stutt brought us to town. Dad came too. We were up before seven & I feel fine. Wanted to do something tonight, so Alice & I went to the show “Tomorrow is Forever,” Claudette Colbert & George Best. Just fair. Rather peculiar. Came home & practiced.
25 Tues. Took off a balance, but it didn’t. C.C.Y.M. tonight. Bob is back. Doris went to Kenosee to hear Mark Kenny, so Edgar acted as President. Was very good. I gave an educational, & Alice got a gossip column. Not very many there, but good meeting.
26 Wed. I didn’t take a singing lesson this aft as Mrs Findlay was busy. Alice packed Isabelle’s stuff while I cleaned our room. Mom & Mrs. Bowditch were here for about 1/2 hour. I tried on my new sun dress! Clipper, Doris & I went to Connie’s Trousseau Tea at 7.30. She has some beautiful things. Were gone about and hour. Practiced when I came home & set my hair. Couldn’t get to sleep til nearly 12.
27 Thurs. Finally got a balance this aft. Wilf was out 2 cents. I took my lesson right after supper tonight. Sure do love singing. Doris went to the Mental Dance tonight. I stayed in and read most of the evening. Bed about 10.15.
28 Fri. Cool this morning but turned out terribly hot this aft. Mom & Wilma were in town. Stewarts left yesterday so Doris & I are alone. I planned on going to the show but ended up staying in & doing my hair, talking etc. which took me until ten.
29 Sat. Keith & Margaret met me right after work tonight. We ate, then came to the house & got my things. Went to the Legion but there was no dance, so met Elsie Ledingham and her beau & went out to Boyles, I stayed out there. Keith & I sat in the car a few minutes after Marg went in. It was nearly two when I got to sleep.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
