5 Sun. Wilma’s 14th Birthday. Mrs. Stutt went to Church with Mom, Shirley, Wilma & I. Grand speaker, a Mr. Bouey. Had lunch when we came home. I made some date slice. Violet, Edna & Elsie came up around 4. Mom & I got supper. The kids & I played Jenkins & Peter Coddle this eve. Jean & Harry came for the girls. Stayed until nearly 11.
6 Mon. Mom brought us to town. Alice, Isabelle & I were home tonight. Did my nails. Had big ideas of cleaning out my drawers but didn’t. Night seemed to slip by.
7 Tues. Grand attendance at C.C.Y.M. Good business meeting, then Charlie Broughton explained Automobile Insurance to us. Sang & danced. Carl & Bob were there.
8 Wed. Work went well for Wednesday morning. I slept two hrs. this aft. Then Is & I washed the dinner dishes about 5.30. An absolutely beautiful evening. Is & I walked over & watched the girls softball team practice then saw a homemade merry-go-round. Bought an ice-cream cone and slowly strolled home.
9 Thurs. Windy & cold. Absolutely awful. I nearly froze in the office this morn. Better this aft. Is, Doris G., Alice, Jean Barnet & I went down & bowled at 7.30. Jack Barnet had the second game with us. I bowled 183 and 177. Is & I worked on bills in the office afterward.
10 Fri. Wind terrible again, & its as cold as winter. I had my coat on in the office at noon. Ration Officer was there today. Alleging that our Butter Coupons are way short. Heard that Mae Adolphe lost her baby yest. I have an awful cold coming on. Is. & Alice went home. Doris & & I stayed in this evening.
11 Sat. Have cold and feel miserable. Dirty and dusty. Stores were closed tonight, so Isabelle took us home. I didn’t do much of anything tonight.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
