January 27 – Feb 2, 1946

I could have fallen for the Elevator man from Ralph had he been 20 years younger, and single.” Friday, February 1, 1946

27           Sun. Lazy day. I tried my darndest to sleep this afternoon, but couldn’t. Just about dead, too. Took a bath tonight. Was asleep before 11. Fixed some more on photograph album.

Performance #14 Vaya con Dios

28           Mon. Got up at seven for a change. Is. & I came in with Doris in the truck. The men came in Bowditch’s car. Doris, Isabelle & I went to the first show. “To Young to Know.” Joan Lester. Real good cute. What love scenes! Went & saw CCYM Hockey against North Weyburn. We won. 11 – 2. Alice & I played the piano.

Historic pictures can highlight multiple aspects. I have previously used this as a “fishing” picture. I also does great justice to my Grandpa with his Best Friend. However, today, admire the TRUCK!

29           Tues. Cold. I accomplished a good deal today, working on the bills. Ivy was there this aft, as well as Clarice. Dot & I worked tonight until nearly ten. Charlie came up & found a mistake of his.

30           Wed. Charlie has been entering my charges & I have been doing some of his work. I went back and worked on the Payroll this afternoon. Clarice & Ivy were there. I didn’t feel well. Home about 5 after having coffee. Alice & I went to Prayer Meeting in the car with Stewarts, at the Apostolic Church. Captain Haugland spoke. Very nice.

31           Thurs. Doris was quiet when she came home last night & I went to bed early, but couldn’t get to sleep. Had my hair done up. Isabelle & I ate lunch down town tonight, then went right back to work. I entered the charges, then came home as the kids came in to practice with the dialogue. Hurried away to the Hockey Game & Clara & Irene stayed. We had lunch at 11. Bed after 12.

Feb 1     Fri. Got an easy balance. Worked hard today. Bowled tonight. The Massey-Harris, our opposition didn’t come, so we bowled a team of 5 men. We had to bowl over average. I think we got 3 points. I could have fallen for the Elevator man from Ralph had he been 20 years younger, and single.

2              Sat. Blew all day. Fairly cold. I worked like the dickens. Got everything done but Misc. Statements. Dad took us home. The road is drifting in. I washed hair, bathed and cleaned four pieces in phospholene.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …

For more information on BCATP see a blog site dedicated to “Paying homage to those who stayed behind to train those who fought overseas.
