“Had 3 other invitiations out to Felners, Pierces & Monty’s.“ Sunday, March 18, 1945
18 Sun. Celeste Felner was over here before we kids were up to invite us over there, but we were having company. Nora & Bill & Marion came out after two. We had dinner about 4.30, and they played until 6.30. Had a very nice time. Had 3 other invitiations out to Felners, Pierces & Monty’s. Charlie was in here to see if I’d play on Wed. night. We four girls took the car & went to see Mr McGugan. Were gone about an hour. Couldn’t get to sleep again tonight.
19 Mon. Mr. S. brought Doris, Dad & I to town. Stayed downtown a few minutes. Did our work tonight, then headed for bed early. Got there about 10.30. Mrs Stewart got home shortly after. Didn’t get to sleep right away.
20 Tues. Real warm. Almost hot. Went back to school early at noon. We both lay down after school. Doris read and I dozed now & again. Did a little work after supper. Went to C.C.Y.M. Our group was in charge of lunch. Had toasted cheese sandwiches. Bed shortly after eleven.
21 Wed. Hot day. I wore my new spring coat. We had a milk shake after school in Snelgroves. Lay down til suppertime. Did a little work. Doris went to a meeting at Clarks, & I got cleaned up. Went to the dance at the I.O.O.F. I played. It was put on by the C.C.Y.M. Grand crowd. Took in over $55. Came home with Doris, Claire Mitchell & Neil. Bed at 2.45.
22 Thurs. Managed to keep awake this morn. Lay down at noon. Stayed down a little while. Mom was up to see us about 5 o’clock. We had company to supper, Jimmy Lobsinger. He & Ross went to the show. I studied for a few minutes, & was in bed at 9.15. Doris followed.
23 Fri. Wrote an Official Theory Test. I failed again. Got 88.5. Improving. Doris passed hers. Mr. S. & Mom were in for us in the truck. We kids had a game of catch after supper. I washed my hair & Miss Farrell set it. I gave her a lesson. Didn’t sleep very well tonight.
24 Sat. Worked like everything. Gave Dorlyn his lesson, scrubbed the kitchen floor. Isabelle went to town with Stutts & Miss Farrell with Freidts. Dad went to Regina with Russ about 11 o’clock after much coaxing. We walked nearly all afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Stewart & Ross come out for supper. Had a little music, etc. Dad didn’t get home until after 7. Fooled around a bit, Had ice-cream & cake. they left after eleven.

These are the diaries of a seventeen-year-old teenager from a farm near Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Her name is Lorraine. She eventually was a church organist in Colgate. In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
