“Didn’t do a scratch of homework.“ Wed, May 31.
27 Sat. Gave Leila her lesson this morn. & Wilma & Shirley theirs this afternoon. Did odd jobs all day. My throat is husky tonight. Bathed & went to bed early, but didn’t sleep much due to radio etc. Wilma went to town with Stutts.
28 Sun. Still don’t feel so hot! Studied, went to church, etc. Dad didn’t go. Went to town tonight to meet Isabelle & Fern on the bus. Went to Aunt Mena’s. Stayed til 9.30. I packed etc. when we got home. Wilma slept with me. Bed about 10.45.
29 Mon. Mr. Stutt brought us up to McGugans, & we came to town with Dean. A terrifically hot day. We were both down town after school. Went down tonight & had a bottle of pop. Murray invited Doris to go to Regina with him to hear Mark Kenny.
30 Tues. Lived thru the day O.K. I went down town after four. Doris got supper. Phoned Winnifred to have her come in tomorrow night. We walked over & took Mr. Peltier’s music back tonight. Studied some more & went to bed.

31 Wed. Didn’t do a scratch of homework. Had Winnifred up for supper tonight. I met her at bus depot. We went to the first show of “Henry Aldrich Haunted House”. It was good. Spooky. We had pop after that, then she caught her bus. We came home & went to bed.
June 1 Thurs. Mom, Wilma & Shirley were in town this afternoon, we were both down, so were talking to them. Had supper, then I went down to the church to practice a song with Connie Willis. Took a tin of soup over to Pats, mixed it with hers, & had lunch at her place. Bed around 10.45 or eleven.
2 Fri. I had both spares in the exam periods today. Winnifred came out for the weekend. We all came with Dean. He brought us right home. Folks (including Dad) were all at Goodwater Sports today. Riverview won two ball games. Winnifred & I had supper, played the piano, looked at snaps. It started raining tonight. Bed around ten.

In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
