(Back to Start of Grandpa’s Memory Journal)
This picture below is the last, and perhaps only, picture that I took of Larry and Connie Boyle. It was taken at Larry’s Mom’s 90th Birthday in 2006.
Larry’s memorial service was Saturday, February 25, 2017, in Regina.
Although I perhaps don’t have a lot of pictures, I do have a story!
During the summer of 1974 Connie Boyle and Beverly Boyle were both pregnant. Connie was expecting Angela Boyle and Beverly was expecting Michael Boyle.
Connie went into labour first, just two weeks before Beverly. Larry Boyle was at work when Connie realized it was time to go to the hospital. Larry was working his first truck driving job as a milkman. If you are less than 40 years old, I recommend that you google the profession called “milkman”!
This was in the days before cell phones and pagers, so Larry was not reachable. Therefore, Connie called Bev and the two of them arrived at the maternity ward of the hospital. The admitting clerk took both of the ladies’ names and then asked “so … which Mrs Boyle is admitting which Mrs Boyle?”
Note: I decided to publish this story as part of my “Grandpa’s Memory Journal” which I began in December 2016. This journal is a way to record my memories and pass them on to our grandchildren. As I discovered this week, sometimes current events can refocus our memories.
