He doesn’t look so well. At last we found The Jolson Story at the Roxy. Keith & we three girls went to see it. It was absolutely wonderful I sure enjoyed it. Had supper up there. Lunch up home. Down here about midnight.

I came home alone & got supper for my husband & Father. Mother stayed for Lodge but didn’t wait for it. Home shortly after supper.

17 Wed. Mother & I went to Ladies Aid at Violet Olivers this aft. I got a lot of my socks knit. Had a nice lunch. Keith & I went to Kirkoffs. Isabelle, Wilma, Cec, Joan & Gordon Moore were there. We had plenty of music. Grand lunch and lots of laughs. Didn’t get home til 1.30.
18 Thurs. Keith & I got up and started things this morn. Mother sewed all day and I did the work. Keith got called in to be T.B. tested. Man was here for dinner. I had a nice sleep. Practiced awhile before supper. Did some knitting etc. this evening.
19 Fri. Didn’t get up until 9.30 Still sleepy. I carried on with the work today. Baked a chocolate layer cake. Turned out very well. Had a day a sleep, set the front of Mother’s hair. Keith & I went to the show “Call Northside – 777” with James Stewart. It was very grand & then went to Legion Dance where car was raffled. Place was packed. Folks were in. Came home right after draw.
20 Sat. We all went to Weyburn shortly after dinner. Got a good deal of Christmas shopping done. Keith helped a good deal! I feel much better about it. Folks invited us there for supper. We stayed most of the evening too. I was too tired to do my hair when we got home.

In 1944 she was the piano player for a dance band in Weyburn. In these days before school busses she, and her sisters, each had to move from the farm into town to attend school for Grades 11 & 12. This is the darkest time in World War II. Weyburn hosted an airbase for BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Plan). In other words, the town is filled with eligible young airmen from all over the world …
