20060101 Sunday  High: -3   Low: -6     Sunrise 8:27 a.m., sunset 4:38 p.m. 7 minutes more daylight this week.

Happy New Year. William and I undecorated the tree & then we burnt it up in the fire pit.  It was cloudy but pleasant.  Some snow shoeing, some sleighing and some eating.  A good day. Dena and I are going to be accountable to each other this year to lose 30 pounds.

20060102 Monday   High: -3    Low: -7

Mike and Gayleen, William and Ashton left for home after breakfast.  I did some office work – mainly trying to download the government payroll sheets for 2006.  Chris went to Winnipeg about 4:00 to stay with Mike and Gayleen while he works at Manitoba Justice tomorrow.

20060103  Tuesday  High: -1   Low: -3

Managed to get back to work after the holidays.  A pleasant day, McPhee, Pumpkin and I walked up the road for exercise.  Still cloudy and gloomy but quite pleasant temperatures.  I can handle that okay.

20060104 Wednesday   High: -1   Low: -3

TOPS day.  Chris came out after his consult this afternoon so I could have the car.  Thanks to having William and Ashton over the holidays I lost 1 lb.  Now I need to keep this momentum going.

20060105  Thursday  High: -3    Low: -6

Totally caught up today on my Ben Graham work and tidied the house.  I am a little weary as we were up before 5:00 a.m. for Chris to drive into Winnipeg for the Manitoba Justice work.  I started feeding Pumpkin in the back porch as there is too much fighting amongst her and the other cats in the barn.

20060106 Friday   High: 1    Low: -6

Happy Birthday Mom.  I got the sewing machine out again for the new year and all the “sewing” projects I will be working on.  Chris was home by supper time.  McPhee and I went for a walk today – pleasant.

20060107 Saturday    High:   -3   Low:   -4

Men’s  Breakfast in Beausejour – so Chris got up early.  He is the main speaker this morning – speaking on Promise Keepers.  I got Aleatha’s quilt ready to be basted – all the layers.  Judy and Robin Otto were over snowshoeing.  Chris and I were also snowshoeing.

20060108 Sunday   High:  -4   Low:  -10     Sunrise  8:25   Sunset  4:46   10 minutes more daylight this past week.

It was a snowy day and very windy.  Managed to do a little snowshoeing later in the afternoon.  Kelly Shumila told us earlier this week that she is expecting their 2nd baby late July.  We enjoyed wine and TV this evening.

20060109 Monday   High: -4   Low:  -17

Office work for me this morning.  Chris left for the city by about 2:00 p.m.  The Winnipeg workshop begins tomorrow.  It is a small class, with 3 attendees.  I hope business picks up soon.

20060110 Tuesday   High: +2   Low: -5   Sunrise:     Sunset:

Exercise class started for the new year.  I weighed in at the same which is a big win for me.  Chris got home shortly after 6:00 p.m. as Bible Study also started for the new year tonight.  It was my turn to take lunch.  Ann Baker gave me a ride home.

20060111 Wednesday   High:  0   Low:  -2   Sunrise:   Sunset:

Chris up and out the door by 6:00 a.m. for Winnipeg.  It is a very foggy day but warm with a fresh layer of snow.  I kept busy hand quilting Aleatha’s quilt and have started on the Christmas knitting for this year.

20060112 Thursday  High: -1  Low: -17   Sunrise:   Sunset:

This was the last day of Chris’s workshop so he was home in time for supper.  Quite a wind blowing the snow around this morning, so the lane was heavy in places.  I worked on Aleatha’s quilt and knitting for the grandchildren.

20060113 Friday  High:  -2 Low:  -13   Sunrise:   Sunset

An unsettling day for me.  We had to have Pumpkin into the Vet at 8:00 a.m. for her spay.  She did okay through the surgery, but her health is in question.  McPhee also had his vaccinations today.  Pumpkin is indoors tonight in McPhee’s old kennel.

20060114 Saturday  High: -2  Low: -12   Sunrise:   Sunset:

A cold morning. By days end I had hauled in three wagon loads of firewood.  We went over to Ann Baker’s to dismantle and pick up a single bed she gave us.  It will go to Ashton when he needs one.  Pumpkin doing OK.

20060115 Sunday  High:  0  Low: -5  Sunrise: 8:21  Sunset: 4:56   14 minutes more daylight this past week

Freezing rain and snow today.  Chris got ready and left by mid afternoon to go back to Winnipeg for work this upcoming week.  We had quite a bit of snow overnight.

20060116 Monday  High:  -1 Low:  -12   Sunrise:   Sunset:

Judy Otto got stuck in the lane coming in to work this morning.  She ran off the lane on the south side where it is steep.  Dave (her husband) had to pull her out with his tractor and plow.  Chris has now made arrangements for Dave to keep our lane clear.

20060117 Tuesday  High: -10  Low: -15   Sunrise:   Sunset:

I walked the lane this morning and suggested Judy Otto not come in to work till after the lane was cleared.  Inger picked me up on the road for FIT club. I lost 2 pounds this week and won the fruit.  Snow again today.  Dave Otto cleared the lane for us.

20060118 Wednesday  High: -12 Low: -22   Sunrise:   Sunset:

I was up early – vacuumed, laundry – snowblowed the path to the barn and hauled in 2 loads of firewood by 11:00 a.m. I had trouble getting the snow blower going – flooded it.  Chris will be home by supper and then we will head back into Winnipeg and we will fly out to Edmonton on Friday.

20060119 Thursday  High: -6  Low: -20  Sunrise:   Sunset:

I am not feeling at all well today, no energy and a stomachache.  I did not go out for lunch with Pat Senyk.  We had tea and toast at the house.  Early to bed this evening.  I am at Mike and Gayleen’s.

20060120 Friday  High: -11  Low: -19  Sunrise:   Sunset:

I am feeling somewhat better today.  We took a cab to the airport about 2:00 p.m. to catch our flight to Edmonton.  We were there in time for supper at Craig and Dena’s.  We picked James up from work.  It is great to see the grandchildren.

20060121 Saturday  High: -12  Low: -20  Sunrise:   Sunset:

I did a little shopping this morning – pictures with Kirena, Sean and Caitlin this afternoon.  I am not feeling well, so went to bed by 7:00 p.m. Mostly stomach trouble.

20060122 Sunday  High: -14  Low: -33   Sunrise: 8:14  Sunset: 5:07  18 minutes more daylight this past week.

Caitlin’s dedication day.  We were at church by 9:15 – a great service.  We drove James to work afterwards, then Craig and Dena had lunch ready for all of us, Dick and Karen and Mark.  A good day.  I am feeling better.

20060123 Monday  High: +3  Low: -15  Sunrise:   Sunset:

Shoe buying day for the grandkids. Kirena and Sean can be a real handful, but will listen to instruction when you get their attention. I arrived at the Winnipeg airport at 7:30 p.m. The highways were bad so I stayed overnight at Mike and Gayleens.  Conservative Minority win.

20060124 Tuesday  High: -1  Low: -10   Sunrise:   Sunset:

A real wicked wind this morning and real icy highways but I made it home by 9:15 a.m. I decided I did not need any more stress today so cancelled out of Bible Study.  I am still recovering from illness last week.

20060125 Wednesday  High: -1  Low: -15  Sunrise:   Sunset:

Nice Day.  I got out the snow blower and cleared the drift behind the garage and the trail to the barn.  Then the grader arrived to clear the lane.  Attended the TOPS meeting tonight.  Four pounds lost since January 4. Yay.

20060126 Thursday   High: +3   Low: -6   Sunrise:   Sunset:

Off to Winnipeg today. I arrived in time to help Gayleen pick up the kids at the “sitters”.  I babysat tonight while Mike and Gayleen went out to see a movie.  I enjoyed the evening with William and Ashton.

20060127 Friday   High: 0 Low: -5    Sunrise:   Sunset:

I picked Chris up at the airport at 8:30 a.m.  He had a couple of hours’ work at Manitoba Justice while I spent my time at Portage Place Mall.  I had coffee with Gayleen and spent a delightful hour at the “McNally Robinson” bookstore.

20060128 Saturday  High: -5  Low: -14  Sunrise:   Sunset:

A cool morning but a pleasant day with very little wind.  I did Chris’s laundry for his trip back to Winnipeg this coming week.  We managed to get out snowshoeing.  Pumpkin came along; she is back to her old self.

20060129 Sunday  High: -5  Low: -7   Sunrise: 8:06   Sunset: 5:18   19 minutes more daylight this past week

Potluck after church this morning, but we did not stay for it.  I drove Chris into the city so I could have the car till Tuesday.  The roads were snow covered again – lots of snow here.

20060130 Monday  High: -5  Low: -20  Sunrise:   Sunset:

Office work all day, as usual for month end.  I fed and watered the cats, fed the birds and hauled in a load of firewood.  Such a pleasant day – lots of beautiful hoar frost and almost no wind.

20060131 Tuesday  High: +1  Low: -5  Sunrise:   Sunset:

Tea Committee meeting this morning, so I had to forgo exercise.  I sure hate to miss that.  I dropped off Kelly’s paycheck – lunch at Walmart and picked up Chris at the airport and home again by 5:30. Lots of car driving today.

February

20060201 Wednesday  High: +1  Low: -8  Sunrise:   Sunset:

No TOPS meeting for me tonight as Chris has the car.  I did office work this morning and lots of reading.  Life is O.K.

20060202 Thursday  High: +1  Low: -11  Sunrise:   Sunset:

Vacuumed and dusted, then worked at preparing and attaching the binding on Aleatha’s quilt.  I am getting good at looking after myself – re: firewood hauling and other winter things.

20060203 Friday  High: 0    Low: -11    Sunrise:

I finished putting the binding on Aleatha’s quilt.  Also prepared a roast chicken supper.  Chris was home by 4:00 with a dozen roses (multicoloured) and some fine wine. We had a good evening.

20060204 Saturday  High: -2.5    Low: -14

Men’s Breakfast in Beausejour.  I had my hair cut and got a few groceries and picked up Chris from the breakfast.  We snowshoed this afternoon – cool but that bright February sun was great and now has some warmth.

20060205 Sunday  High: -5    Low: -14    Sunrise: 7:56    Sunset: 5:30    22 minutes more daylight this past week

I phoned Blair for his birthday.  It was a fun call with lots of laughter over his dog.  Super Bowl party at Alex and Dora Cross’s.  Chris did some snowshoeing; I worked with my weights.

20060206 Monday  High: -14    Low: -21

I had lots of laundry today and lots of office work also.  It was a good day as I got lots accomplished.  I even managed to get snowshoeing for a bit.

20060207 Tuesday  High: -20    Low: -30

This is the day I start my 3 week “Bargello” quilt class in Beausejour. Already I have some new tips to add to my quilting knowledge.  Ralph and Lorna Thomas picked up Chris for Bible Study tonight as I had the car.

20060208 Wednesday  High: -16    Low: -31

TOPS meeting this evening.  I have only lost a half a pound; I seem to be stuck again but can wear a size smaller jean.  So, I guess something is working.  There were only three of us at TOPS so I left early.

20060209 Thursday  High: -13    Low: -21

Left for Winnipeg about 11:00 a.m. – lunch at Red Lobster – a few errands then picked up Gayleen at work and drove to pick William and Ashton up at the sitters.  Supper at Boston Pizza.  We are staying in the city overnight as Chris works at MB Justice tomorrow.

20060210 Friday  High: -2    Low: -19

I spent most of the day watching TV and working on the laundry for Gayleen.  Doing nothing but sitting is hard – I think being a couch potato is highly overrated.

20060211 Saturday  High: +2    Low: -5

Carpet cleaning day – at least for Chris.  I did help a little but spent quite a bit of the day working on the colour combinations for the “Bargello” quilt class. Colour arranging is really hard for me and it took almost all day.

20060212 Sunday  High: +2    Low: -13    Sunrise: 7:44    Sunset: 5:42   24 minutes more daylight this past week

20060214 Tuesday  High: -2    Low: -15

Attended exercise this morning at Stead Hall.  According to that scale I have gained 1 pound. That was not at all encouraging.  I spent most of the afternoon working at office work.

20060215 Wednesday  High: -6    Low: -19

I had a Tea Committee meeting this morning at Jackie Stenzil’s home. Did some office work this afternoon and then off to TOPS this evening.  I lost one pound.  I was pleased.  Cold, cold, cold.

20060216 Thursday  High: -11    Low: -24

Brr really cold today – windchills into the -40s. We went to Winnipeg, with a stop at Walmart and then picked up William and Ashton at their babysitters.  I took supper in with us – we will look after the boys while Mike and Gayleen attend Andre’s Celebration of Life.

20060218 Saturday  High: -14    Low: -24

The church event “Horse drawn sleigh ride” was postponed for a couple of weeks because of the cold. We went to Beausejour for a haircut for Chris and some groceries.  It is cold but sunny.  Andre’s funeral today.  Michael was an honorary pall bearer.

20060219 Sunday  High: -15    Low: -31    Sunrise: 7:31    Sunset: 5:54    25 minutes more daylight this past week

Church then home to get the rest of Chris’s packing done.  Also, our stack was frozen so Chris had to climb up on the roof and thaw it out.  Chris to Winnipeg for the final week of the Manitoba Justice project.

20060220 Monday  High: -13    Low: -25

Office work, a quiet day.  We are waiting for the business phones to start ringing again.  A bright sunny February day.  My living room is sunny again.

20060221 Tuesday  High: -11    Low: -24

I had Inger pick me up for exercise this morning.  She really gave us a workout today – a whole new routine.  Lost 1 pound, I guess the same one I found last week.  Ann Baker came over for supper.

20060222 Wednesday  High: -10    Low: -26

Wow a whole day without anything scheduled.  Judy Otto is not in today and as Chris has the car no TOPS for me this evening.  Quilting, knitting and reading.

20060223 Thursday  High: -16    Low: -24

20060225 Saturday   High: -11    Low: -23

Went to Beausejour to get a few groceries for the week.  A nice day, still cool but sunny.  I picked up a bag of bird seed – only the 3rd one this year as not too many birds.  Lots of woodpeckers though.

20060226 Sunday  High: -3    Low: -23    Sunrise: 7:18    Sunset: 6:06    25 minutes more daylight this past week

Church and potluck after the service.  Not too many stayed but was a good time. Home and spent some time with Mike, William and Ashton.  Gayleen is in Vancouver and Mike brought the boys out for the afternoon and supper.  It was fun to see them.

20060227 Monday  High: -5    Low: -13

Busy workday – some snowshoeing this afternoon.  It was a glorious sunny day.  Wow, I even spent some time on the treadmill this morning. Chris was busy working on his speech for Toronto next week.

20060228 Tuesday  High: -10    Low: -22

Exercise at Stead Hall this morning.  No pounds lost but I am not concerned.  I have been doing plenty of exercise, so I am much fitter.  Our Women’s Ministry Group potluck supper.  We had a talk by Myrna Ronald who has an African AIDS ministry.  The talk made me think about how I can make a difference.
