20030101 Wednesday High: -8  Low: -17

Welcome 2003, first day I have felt well after 5 days of stomach flu. We are experiencing a winter with very little snow cover. Will it be a dry Spring? Time will tell. There are not very many birds at the bird feeders this winter. Did the cold spring of 2002 affect their numbers?

20030102 Thursday   High:-6     Low:  -9  Sunrise 8:26  Sunset 4:39  Re: Winnipeg MB times

New Moon.  Back to work.  Quite a lot of catching up to do, as most of December was spent getting ready for Christmas.  I’m working with the TOPS records also as they need to be in the mail  and postmarked by January 8.  Temperatures are way above normal.

20030103  Friday  High: -2    Low: -5    Sunrise 8:26  Sunset 4:40

Spent the day in the city, doing errands and spending time with William.  This is his first time showing signs of “making strange”. A very warm day with a south wind, and melting on the streets.  This is not the January weather of my youth-it is noticeable.  1 minute more daylight today

20030104 Saturday   High:  -2   Low:  -6    Sunrise 8:26  Sunset 4:41

Our travels today – Stead and Beausejour.  We washed Ann’s car to return to her on Monday.  Drove around the Beausejour car lots to see what kind of used vehicles were for sale.  We relaxed most of the day, tried cross country skiing (not for me) and then snow shooing for a little while.  Cloudy, grey and damp today.

20030105 Sunday   High: -6    Low: -8     Sunrise 8:26  Sunset  4:42

Off to the city to visit and babysit William this afternoon.  We met Harold for supper this evening. It was a cloudy and gray day again.  The temperatures are quite warm for January.

20030106 Monday    High: -3    Low: -10    Sunrise: 8:26, Sunset 4:43

Mom’s 80th birthday. She is sounding great when I phoned her. Heather was able to get some days off to spend with Mom & Dad. Picked up Ann at the airport this afternoon & returned her car to her. A clear night for a change.

20030107  Tuesday   High:  +8   Low:  -2      Sunrise 8:25  Sunset  4:44    2 minutes more daylight

An incredibly warm day.  Many records were broken across the province today.  Much of the snow has melted.  We sure could use a good snowstorm.  I’m concerned things will be quite dry in the spring.

20030108 Wednesday   High: +5  Low: +3     Sunrise  8:25   Sunset  4:46

Warm and very windy.  Snowing by 9:00 p.m.  We had our first TOPS meeting of the new year.  We are all inspired to try a little harder on our weight loss this year.  Time will tell.  We really need more accountability to each other.

20030109 Thursday    High:  -6   Low  -13     Sunrise:  8:24   Sunset:  4:47

Cold and windy today.  The yard is very icy and footing is treacherous.  We made a trip to Winnipeg to send a shipment off.  I am still battling this flu virus.  It seems to hang on for a long time.

20030110 Friday   High: -19   Low: -26   Sunrise:  8:24   Sunset:  4:48

Very windy and cold.  I did not venture outdoors today.  Chris told me that if I had to pick a day not to go outside, today was a good choice. I spent the day knitting, TV watching and sitting by the fire.  It is a rough life!!!  I count my blessings.

2003011 Saturday   High: -18   Low: -26    Sunrise:  8:23   Sunset:  4:49

Sunny and cold.  We went to Pine Falls for breakfast.  It was a beautiful drive but windy and cold.  Spent the rest of the day bottling wine, reading etc.

20030112 Sunday   High:  -18   Low:  -22    Sunrise:  8:23   Sunset:  4:51    12 minutes more daylight this past week

Sunny and windy.  Off to church to attend our various classes.  My goodness my 3-year-olds were rambunctious today.  We enjoyed lunch at Boston Pizza and then went shopping for a snow suit for William.  No luck.

20030113 Monday    High:  -17   Low:  -26   Sunrise:  8:22  Sunset:  4:52

Ladies Bible study started again this morning.  We are meeting at Dora Cross’s home.  Also starting today is the evening Bible Study on Genesis with Alex Cross leading.  I really enjoy both.  A cold but very sunny day.  Tonight was very cold but with no wind and lots of moonlight.

20030114 Tuesday  High: -17   Low: -24   Sunrise: 8:22  Sunset: 4:54

Bitterly cold with wind but very sunny.  Stead Aerobics started again this morning.  We haven’t done aerobics for a month, so we were a little rusty.  It is great fun though.  The dogs are getting somewhat housebound with the cold weather.  We all need to get out walking soon.

20030115 Wednesday  High: -11 Low: -22   Sunrise: 8:21  Sunset: 4:55

Warmer today.  We went to Winnipeg to send off some course materials.  Chris drove me to Economy Textile and I bought some quilting fabrics to use for William’s quilt.  Now I just need to find the time to make it

20030116 Thursday   High: -13  Low: -21   Sunrise: 8:20  Sunset: 8:57

It was a bitter wind today, somewhat warmer but nasty outside.  Even the dogs didn’t last outside for long.  Chris was off to Winnipeg around 4:00 p.m. to ship some last minute class  materials to Halifax for the workshop.  Lingering twilight now till 5:30.

20030117 Friday  High: -6  Low: -18   Sunrise: 8:19  Sunset: 4:58

I had a good day workwise today.  It started snowing this morning and then the wind blew all night.  The 1 inch of snow we got was blown away and piled into the familiar drift patterns.

20030118 Saturday   High: -15  Low: -24   Sunrise:  8:18   Sunset:  5:00

We attended the annual Woodlot Association MB meeting today. It was held at the Jessie Salteaux Resource Center just outside of Beausejour.  I really enjoyed the walk and talk portion, learning a lot of “tree” things.  Things like male and female trees, green and black ash trees, tree duck nests, beaked Hazelnut bushes etc.

20030119 Sunday  High: -11  Low: -26    Sunrise: 8:17  Sunset: 5:01   16 minutes more daylight this past week.

A bitter wind today.  To church and then to babysit William.  He is laughing now and is very strong in his arms and legs.  Pat and Barry Senyk came over for a cup of tea and a visit with us.

20030120 Monday  High: -20  Low: -28  Sunrise: 8:16  Sunset: 5:03

Cold, cold, cold.  The house kitty-corner from Sherwood store caught fire this morning.  The community story has it, that mice chewed through the electrical wiring in the attic. However, a grow operation of marijuana was found in an outbuilding – tsk tsk.  Bible study morning and evening.

20030121 Tuesday  High: -20  Low: -27   Sunrise:  8:15   Sunset:  5:04

Still cold.  Aerobics at Stead Hall this morning, Beausejour in the afternoon for dog and cat food and a few groceries.

20030122 Wednesday  High: -25  Low: -34   Sunrise: 8:14  Sunset: 5:06

Windchills of -40 today, but very sunny.  I spent the day getting ready for our trip to Regina/Shaunavon Saskatchewan tomorrow.  TOPS meeting tonight.

20030123 Thursday  High: -23  Low: -34   Sunrise: 8:13  Sunset: 5:08

Left at 8:00 a.m. for Regina.  Dropped off McPhee at Mike and Gayleens.  We arrived in Regina about 3:00 p.m.  There was snowing and blowing from Whitewood on. We met with Harold Peters for supper.

20030124 Friday  High: -16  Low: -24   Sunrise: 8:12  Sunset: 5:09

Our travels today took us from Regina to Shaunavon, arriving about 3:00 p.m. We had some trouble getting up the lane at the farm.  They have a good amount of snow.  Very very cold with a high wind chill. Mom and Dad look good and feel good.  So far Chris isn’t doing too bad with 2 cats in the house.

20030125 Saturday  High: -20  Low: -23   Sunrise: 8:12  Sunset: 5:15

Well, wouldn’t you know it.  I opened my big mouth and Dad sent Blair into town to buy a set of clippers.  I ended up cutting their hair (as the only barber in town closed).  Thankfully it was just a simple crew cut, and I now have a couple of references if I need a new profession.

20030126 Sunday  High: -22  Low: -31  Sunrise: 8:10  Sunset: 5:12   18 minutes more daylight this past week

The temperatures recorded here are for Winnipeg but in Shaunavon SK we awoke to a very windy cold morning -20.  All day long we watched to temperature rise to about +5 at 9:00 p.m.  Mom and I (Blair and Chris) went shopping this afternoon to the “Bargain Shop”.  We had a fun time as usual.

20030127 Monday   High: -8   Low: -22    Sunrise:   8:09   Sunset:   5:14

We left about 10:00 a.m. for Regina.  Between Gull Lake and Swift Current, it was pouring rain, then changed to big fluffy flakes of snow.  We made good time to Regina in any case.  Enjoyed having supper with Harold Peters.

20030128 Tuesday   High: -16   Low: -30   Sunrise: 8:07   Sunset: 5:16

Arrived in Winnipeg about 4:00 p.m.  We had supper at Mike and Gayleen’s then went to the church meeting.  We voted to call a new pastor.

20030129 Wednesday  High: -13  Low: -26   Sunrise: 8:06  Sunset:  5:17

The weather has warmed up but a strong SW wind this evening.  Kelly and I tried to go to our meeting in Beausejour this evening.  However I decided to take Kelly home instead because of the drifting snow over the highway.  It was hard to see.

20030130 Thursday  High: -7  Low: -15   Sunrise: 8:05  Sunset: 5:19

Warmer today.  We spent the day in Winnipeg.  I babysat William.  Chris ran around on Ben Graham Group Inc business.  There was a flat tire, which was totaled, so we drove home on the donut.  We did enjoy supper at the Wintergarden restaurant with Pat and Barry Senyk.  They would like us to become a deacon couple at the church.

20030131 Friday  High: -7  Low: -16  Sunrise: 8:03  Sunset: 5:21

It was very pleasant outside today.  Kelly Shumila and I assembled the new exercise bicycle.  It is certainly a different form of exercise.  I really notice it.

February

20030201 Saturday  High: -5  Low: -7   Sunrise: 8:02  Sunset: 5:23

A perfect day.  I accomplished all I set out to do.  We went snowshoeing in the back trails.  This is only the second time this winter.  Shame on us.  There was fresh snow overnight and the temperature was pleasant so it was beautiful.

20030208 Saturday   High: -18    Low: -28    Sunrise: 7:51    Sunset: 5:35

Cold, cold, cold, sunny and windy.  I for one am getting tired of the constant cold.  I find myself tense and on edge.  The dogs are in and out, in and out.  It’s sunny out and they want out but don’t stay out long.

20030209 Sunday  High: -18    Low: -35    Sunrise: 7:50    Sunset: 5:36   22 minutes more daylight this past week

Cold and windy again.  We got home from church by 3:20 pm.  I went to the barn to check on the cats.  I imagine they are just as tired of the cold as we all are.

20030219 Wednesday  High: -5    Low: -14    Sunrise: 7:32    Sunset: 5:53

I painted the trim and the doors upstairs today, then watched the children while Dena worked on the things she needed to do. A cold front has come into Edmonton. I am tired when I go to bed at night, but the activity is good for me.

20030220 Thursday  High: -16    Low: -19    Sunrise: 7:30    Sunset: 5:55

Cold and snowy in Edmonton, worked at cleaning and Dena cleaned closets.  Sean had his 4-month immunization shots. He is growing fast.  Such a happy, content little boy.  He loves to be talked to and really enjoys his big sister.  He watches her constantly.  Life is good.
