Bev worked as a carhop at the Carnival Drive-In, North Albert St, Regina, Summer 1970

(The above created an interesting exchange on our Family Messenger Page in February 2022):

Mom, that was quite a job description…Dena and I were laughing imagining you reading and listening to that. Especially the assumption that all the coustomers are men 😂

Beverly

I think most of the were. At least as far as I can remember.

Dena

Women would have been at home cooking, cleaning, etc.

Dena

I was thinking about the time period – so much has changed over the years.

Beverly

Yes it has changed a lot. Women have so many options for careers. But still very tough for many women living in today’s world.

Dena

Agreed.

Chris

There may be another factor at work from the instructions written in 1970. There were no gender-neutral pronouns in use. “They”, “Their” and “Them” were viewed as awkward in that context of the day. The “he/she,” “him/her” convention is much more recent.
